Laziness

I'm not sure if it's because of the seasons changing or if it's just me, but the amount of laziness lately seems overwhelming. I see it especially at school, even I'm doing it and I'm usually on top of my work. Maybe it's daylight savings that's throwing things off. It's dark by 6 and the sun is up by around 7. So does that mean our bodies want to take breaks every winter just like the rest of nature does?

I looked into it a little more and found out that some people are affected by the seasons changing, ironically called seasonal affective disorder (Grohol). At first I thought it was a joke because it's abbreviation is SAD, but I found out it's a real thing and surprisingly common. They also said that a big variable in diagnosing people, specifically teens, was what "weather personality type" they are. Meaning people who like summer are more likely to get depressed during the fall or winter, and vice versa. Depression is generally associated with lack of motivation so it makes sense to say people are affected by the weather and losing motivation to do any type of work.

I wish we got to hibernate in the winter, or take cat naps everyday, but we have to stay awake all year. Even though things like SAD get in the way sometimes, we still push through and get things done. Like this blog, it's late but it got done.

  1. Laziness is a thing that I experience way to often. I can identify with SAD, as I tend to strive in fall and winter, yet get very down in the spring and summer. I like the way that you centered your blog around the fact that laziness is what caused you to post it late!

  2. I've heard about seasonal changes and also how it can effect they way people and animals act but I've never paid much attention to it and I think it's interesting how you've been noticing it around school. Maybe teachers notice it too with the amount and effort a student puts in year round even though it might be hard to track.

  3. I like how you have taken something that's real, and is really going on and wrote about it. I knew that people can get gloomy when its a bad day outside, but did not know there was a whole thing on it. It sucks getting home as it's getting dark, makes me feel like my whole day is just done..so amen to this post.

  4. Whoa. I had seriously never thought about the change in seasons affecting a person's behavior or that it could make a person lazy. You just taught me about something I'd never heard about and honestly, it makes a lot of sense since many people have been complaining about feeling down these past days.

  5. After reading this blog it all is beginning to add up and make sense. I had no idea that being lazy throughout a specific season indicates that a person has a disorder. I have witnessed a person who loves summer dearly become depressed and angry as the season began to change (that's crazy). As surprising as this sounds I can say I agree with this because I feel as if I'm getting some of the symptoms myself...
